Direct answer: Of 36 article pages, 30 carry breadcrumb markup (83.3%), but no page has an article-level previous/next link and no page shows “related articles / recommended reading” text. Six pages have no breadcrumb: three E16 pages, E19, E26 and E28.

In other words, 30 pages have breadcrumb as their only article-level entry; the other six have not even that and rely on global navigation or the footer.

Method: look for three entry types in cached HTML

The study reuses the 36 article page caches from study 45 (2026-11-03 08:40–08:41, 10 sites; five JS shells excluded), with zero network requests.

Seven sites and 30 pages have breadcrumbs; four sites and six pages have none. E16 is missing on all three pages, so it is a template gap rather than a single omission.

What this means for acceptance

  1. Breadcrumb coverage is fair but six pages lack it. Fix by template, not page by page.
  2. Articles are not linked to each other. Zero previous/next links in 36 pages; a series can only be reached through the listing page.
  3. No related-article entry. Zero by text; readers and crawlers cannot walk from one article to another.
  4. Add missing breadcrumbs first, then related articles. Breadcrumb gives hierarchy; related gives lateral discovery.
  5. Text detection is a lower bound. Image cards or JS-injected modules may be missed; confirm in a browser before concluding.

Limits

  • Static HTML only: no JavaScript, no expansion of image cards or lazy modules.
  • Text rules: related articles are detected by “相关/推荐” wording; custom labels may be missed.
  • Listing pagination excluded: 上一页/下一页 does not count as article previous/next.
  • Quality not judged: breadcrumb hierarchy and link reachability are not verified.
  • 10 sites, 36 pages: a pilot, no industry claim.

Data and reproduction

Anonymised data: equipment-article-navigation-2026.csv (36 rows × 6 columns: breadcrumb, previous/next, related and entry count). The repository keeps docs/research/2026-11-article-navigation.csv.

Parser: scripts/article_nav_probe.py; unit tests: scripts/test_article_nav_probe.py (8 tests, no network). Run:

python -m unittest scripts.test_article_nav_probe

Sources and definitions

  1. Article cache: 36 pages from 10 sites in study 45 (2026-11-03 08:40–08:41), five JS shells excluded.
  2. Breadcrumb: class / aria-label / itemprop containing breadcrumb.
  3. Previous/next: exact anchor text match, listing pagination excluded.
  4. Related: anchor or heading text with related/recommended wording.
About the author

Lingyi Information Official (delivery team) works on requirements, proposals and acceptance for corporate websites, brand and smart-manufacturing projects. This article counts navigation entries detectable by text or markup in cached HTML only; it does not run JavaScript or judge entry quality or link reachability; the 10-site, 36-page sample is a pilot.

Articles need a path between them

Breadcrumb covers 30 of 36; previous/next and related-article text are zero, so lateral discovery is almost absent.
