Direct answer: for US regions, 1TB = 1,000GB and 100% monthly egress, 2026 monthly costs for 10TB stored + 10TB downloaded are roughly: Backblaze B2 69.50, Wasabi 79.90, Cloudflare R2 150, AWS S3 1,121; 50TB: B2 347.50, Wasabi 399.50, R2 750, S3 5,441; 100TB: B2 695, Wasabi 799, R2 1,500, S3 10,041. The higher the egress ratio, the wider the gap: 10TB stored + 100TB downloaded, B2 769.50, Wasabi 79.90, R2 150, S3 8,021. B2’s 3× free egress, Wasabi’s no-egress-fee and R2’s zero egress turn AWS S3’s 0.09/GB first tier into the main cost.

This article compares “storage + public internet egress/download” only; it does not repeat the full object-storage/backup selection (see the site’s object-storage cost page). It targets egress-heavy workloads such as video, installers, model weights, image downloads, SaaS file distribution and AI datasets. Data cut-off: 5 November 2026; prices are the four vendors’ official US list prices/public price APIs, in USD, excluding tax; the TCO is an editorial calculation, not a vendor quote. All TB use an editorial 1TB = 1,000GB convention; AWS bills in GB and may differ slightly with units.

Three rules to remember

AWS S3: first 100GB/month free, then 0.09/GB (first 10TB), 0.085 (next 40TB), 0.07 (next 100TB), 0.05 (>150TB), quote above 500TB. Cloudflare R2: egress free, standard storage 0.015/GB/month. Backblaze B2: 6.95/TB/month, egress free up to 3× average monthly storage, then 0.01/GB. Wasabi: 7.99/TB/month, egress/API free, 90-day minimum and 1TB minimum. At 100% egress B2 is lowest; at 10× storage egress Wasabi is lowest.

Four egress models: per GB, zero egress, 3× free, no egress fee

AWS S3: first 100GB/month of public egress free (aggregated across AWS services/regions except China and GovCloud), then 0.09/GB for the first 10TB, 0.085 for the next 40TB, 0.07 for the next 100TB and 0.05 above 150TB; contact AWS above 500TB. Cloudflare R2: egress free for all storage classes; standard storage 0.015/GB/month, IA 0.01; Class A 4.50/million, Class B 0.36/million; free 10GB/month, 1M Class A and 10M Class B. Backblaze B2: 6.95/TB/month, egress free up to 3× average monthly storage, then 0.01/GB; first 10GB storage free; no minimum file size/duration. Wasabi: 7.99/TB/month, egress/API free; 90-day minimum storage and 1TB minimum active storage; RCS from 25TB.

The 2026 official prices: per TB storage, per GB egress

AWS S3 us-east-1: storage 0.023/GB/month for the first 50TB; public egress 100GB free, then 0.09/GB first 10TB, 0.085 next 40TB, 0.07 next 100TB, 0.05 >150TB; CloudFront origin fetch does not incur S3 egress, but CloudFront bills separately. R2: standard 0.015/GB/month, IA 0.01; egress 0; Class A 4.50/million, Class B 0.36/million; free 10GB/1M/10M. B2: 6.95/TB/month (about 0.00695/GB/month), 3× free egress, then 0.01/GB; first 10GB free. Wasabi: 7.99/TB/month (about 0.00799/GB/month), egress/API 0; 1TB minimum, 90-day minimum.

10 / 50 / 100TB stored + 100% egress

At 1TB = 1,000GB and monthly downloads equal to storage: 10TB, B2 69.50, Wasabi 79.90, R2 150, S3 1,121; 50TB, B2 347.50, Wasabi 399.50, R2 750, S3 5,441; 100TB, B2 695, Wasabi 799, R2 1,500, S3 10,041. At 100% egress B2 is lowest and Wasabi close; R2 is in the middle; AWS’s 0.09/GB first tier makes 10TB of egress alone exceed 1,000.

Editorial calculation, not a quote. AWS = storage (first 50TB 0.023, then 0.022) + egress (100GB free; first 10TB 0.09, next 40TB 0.085, next 100TB 0.07); R2 = storage 0.015×GB + 0; B2 = 6.95×TB (egress free within 3×); Wasabi = 7.99×TB (egress free). Excludes tax, requests/API, CDN, acceleration, multi-region, support and migration; 1TB = 1,000GB.

Egress is 10× storage: 10TB stored + 10/50/100TB downloaded

10TB stored, 10/50/100TB downloaded: AWS 1,121/4,521/8,021; R2 150/150/150; B2 69.50/269.50/769.50; Wasabi 79.90/79.90/79.90. The more egress, the more Wasabi’s no-egress-fee advantage shows; B2’s 3× free only covers 30TB, and its 0.01/GB overage is still low; R2 has zero egress but 0.015/GB storage; AWS’s tier discounts do not offset the 0.09 first tier.

100TB8,021.00150.00769.5079.90Wasabi

Editorial calculation, not a quote. AWS = 10TB storage 230 + egress (10/50/100TB tiers); R2 = 150 + 0; B2 = 69.50 + the portion above 3× (30TB)×0.01/GB; Wasabi = 79.90 + 0. Excludes tax, requests/API, CDN, acceleration, multi-region, support and migration; 1TB = 1,000GB; B2’s 3× uses 10TB average monthly storage.

Hidden costs: requests, CDN, acceleration, minimums

All four exclude tax, requests/API, CDN, migration and support. AWS S3 requests, storage class, Transfer Acceleration, Multi-Region Access Point and Direct Connect are separate; CloudFront origin fetch is free of S3 egress but CloudFront bills separately. R2 Class A is 4.50/million and Class B 0.36/million; IA retrieval is 0.01/GB. B2 Class D is 0.004/10k (2,500/day free); partner CDN egress is free; 3× is average monthly storage. Wasabi has a 90-day minimum, 1TB minimum active storage and RCS from 25TB; early delete/under-1TB incurs charges. Egress-heavy workloads must add CDN/requests/acceleration, not just storage.

Which option fits which scenario?

High egress/download (video, installers, models, images): Wasabi or B2; zero egress + global edge/Workers: R2; already on AWS and need S3 ecosystem/storage classes/acceleration: S3 (but egress is expensive); egress within 3× storage: B2 is cheapest; egress 10× storage: Wasabi’s flat rate is lowest; small capacity/short term: mind Wasabi’s 1TB/90-day and B2’s 10GB free. With a CDN on top, CloudFront/other CDN requests/traffic can change the ranking again.

What should procurement and acceptance specify?

At least eight things: stored TB, monthly egress TB/peak, egress/storage ratio, requests/object count, CDN/origin, acceleration/multi-region, minimum term/capacity and migration/support. Use a 1–3 month POC with the real download curve and record egress, requests, CDN origin fetch, failures/retries and the bill; do not compare only “per TB storage”.

  • Capacity/egress: stored TB, monthly download TB, peak/average; align on 1TB = 1,000GB.
  • Egress/storage ratio: 1×, 3×, 10×; determines B2 vs Wasabi.
  • Requests: GET/Class B/Class D; object count/average size; small-object request fees add up.
  • CDN/origin: CloudFront/partner CDN; whether origin fetch is free and CDN fees.
  • Acceleration/multi-region: AWS Transfer Acceleration/MRAP; the others lack equivalents.
  • Minimum term/capacity: Wasabi 90-day/1TB; B2 3× average; R2 10GB free.
  • Compliance/migration: region, encryption, export, migration tools/cost.
  • POC: 1–3 months of real downloads; record egress, requests, CDN, failures and the bill.

FAQ

10TB stored + 10TB downloaded: cheapest?

B2 69.50, Wasabi 79.90, R2 150, S3 1,121. B2’s 3× free covers the 10TB egress; Wasabi has no egress fee but 1TB/90-day minimums; R2 has zero egress but 0.015/GB storage; S3’s 0.09/GB first tier is the most expensive.

10TB stored + 100TB downloaded: cheapest?

Wasabi 79.90, R2 150, B2 769.50, S3 8,021. B2’s 3× only covers 30TB, so 70TB×0.01=700; Wasabi’s egress is free; R2’s egress is free but storage is 150.

Why is AWS S3 so expensive?

Public egress is 0.09/GB for the first 10TB, then 0.085/0.07/0.05; 10TB of downloads is about 891, more than the 230 storage. CloudFront origin fetch avoids S3 egress, but CloudFront traffic/requests bill separately.

How does B2’s 3× free egress work?

It is 3× average monthly storage; 10TB stored gives 30TB free egress, then 0.01/GB. At 100% egress (10TB) it is fully free; at 10× egress (100TB), 70TB is billed.

Does Wasabi really have no egress fee?

The official page says egress/API 0; but there is a 1TB minimum active storage, a 90-day minimum storage term, and RCS starts at 25TB. Small capacity/short-term deletion incurs charges; calculate the actual usage.

R2 has zero egress; why is it not always lowest?

R2 standard storage is 0.015/GB/month, so 10TB is 150; B2 69.50 and Wasabi 79.90 have lower storage. R2’s advantage grows with egress, but its storage rate is above B2/Wasabi.

How to add a CDN?

CDN requests/traffic/origin fetch are separate; AWS S3→CloudFront avoids S3 egress but CloudFront bills; B2 partner CDN may be egress-free; Wasabi/R2 egress is free but the CDN still charges.

What other hidden costs exist?

Requests/API, object count, CDN, acceleration/multi-region, minimum term/capacity, tax, support and migration. This article counts storage + public egress only.

Research method and limitations

This article separates “official facts” from “editorial modelling”: AWS S3 egress tiers and R2/B2/Wasabi storage/egress/minimums come from the four official pricing pages and the AWS Price List API (AWSDataTransfer); the 10/50/100TB TCO is arithmetic under 1TB = 1,000GB and storage + public egress only, not a vendor quote. It does not compare actual throughput, latency, availability, CDN partner coverage or support response.

Eight limitations: (1) only US public list prices are used, excluding tax, discounts, private pricing and commitments; (2) 1TB = 1,000GB is editorial, while AWS bills in GB and may differ slightly; (3) only storage + public egress are counted, excluding requests/API, CDN, acceleration/multi-region, tax, support and migration; (4) B2’s 3× uses average monthly storage, while actual is byte-hours; (5) Wasabi has a 1TB/90-day minimum, so small/short-term workloads differ; (6) only 10/50/100TB at 100% egress and 10TB stored with 10/50/100TB egress are modelled; (7) throughput, latency, availability and CDN partner coverage were not tested; (8) Google Cloud/Azure/IDrive and others were not compared. Treat this as a unit-alignment template and replace assumptions with a 1–3 month real-download POC.
